Ted Williams memorabilia finds digital marketplace with pending release of nine non-fungible

Hall of Famer Ted Williams is coming to the digital memorabilia market with a release of nine different cards that follow the No. 9's career from skinny rookie to Cooperstown inductee. The collectors' items offered by Williams' daughter are hand drawn by Brazilian illustrator Andre Maciel, known as Black Madre, who created the non-fungible tokens for football star Rob Gronkowski that sold out last month for $1.6 million.

"I wrote to [Maciel]. I told him who I was. I said, 'My dad is Ted Williams.' I said, 'Here's what I want to do,'" Claudia Williams said, adding that she didn't know whether Maciel would be familiar with the baseball star.

The Farmingdale restaurant residing at 317 Main Street opened up its own marketplace located behind the eatery back in February.

The Marketplace at 317 is a one-stop, grab-and-go where patrons can choose from a variety of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert options.

Owner and chef Eric LeVine said the empty space was previously used for extra storage, but when the pandemic hit, he decided to utilize the space to continue to serve the restaurant's signature dishes in a takeout setting and provide another option for their customers

Boat builders struggle to meet soaring demand, solve supply chain woes - Marketplace

There's been rising interest in outdoor recreation from people looking for pandemic-safe activities, and that demand is driving skyrocketing consumer sales in the boating industry.

Boat sales leaped to a 13-year-high in 2020, and the National Marine Manufacturers Association expects the boom to continue through 2021. U.S. sales of boats, marine products and services are estimated to have reached $47 billion in 2020, up 9% from the previous year.

Jason Constantine is president and chief operating officer of Back Cove Yachts , a boat manufacturing company in Rockland, Maine. Constantine said his shop is struggling to keep up with soaring demand because of supply chain delays and labor shortages, resulting in order backlogs into 2023.

What is Helvetica hiding? Visual design that says, "Trust me." - Marketplace

This week David Brancaccio spoke with creative producer Mike Merrill about the common visual design that many corporate brands use these days. Merrill is known for coining the term " Corporate Memphis " to describe that flat, modern, pastel-colored visual language tech companies have used to convey a sense of safety to consumers. (The term is a nod to the Memphis Group, a cohort of Italian designers whose bold, geometric work helped define the 1980s style.)

"A lot of people won’t even notice it," Merrill said. Much like Helvetica typeface, this design style communicates friendliness and authority without being conspicuous. That makes it dangerous, Merrill said: "It is all about this idea of like, trust me, I’m a trustworthy company. And let’s not look behind the curtain and see what’s actually going on."

How will inflation move in post-COVID recovery? - Marketplace

The federal reserve and the Biden administration have been trying to prepare the country for temporary, modest inflation this year, around 2.3% or so, as the economy recovers. But some are worried we might see more significant and durable rises in prices.

Sabri Ben-Achour : So can we just start by talking about how important the question of what will happen to inflation is? Why is it so critical that we understand what happens to inflation?

Joseph Gagnon : Well, I think inflation affects everybody. And, people have to plan for the future, and if prices rise it affects how they negotiate with their employers over their wages, or how they save for the future. It affects many things.

What drives corporations to sign — or not sign — a letter opposing voting restrictions?

On Wednesday, hundreds of companies and executives, including Amazon, Netflix and Starbucks, published a signed statement opposing "any discriminatory legislation" that would make it harder for people to vote.

Chenault added, “And what we cannot do is be silent…. There has been no evidence of widespread [election] fraud. And this is a very important moment for our democracy. And corporations must take a stand.”

Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines, JPMorgan Chase and Walmart are some of the companies that did not sign the statement opposing voting rights restrictions nationwide. Coca-Cola and Delta, both headquartered in Atlanta, had previously expressed concern about the Georgia legislation. Neither responded to our interview requests.

The Marketplace for Getting Celebs to Boost Your TikToks

Pearpop, the social media marketplace that allows celebrity TikTokers to to charge smaller creators for different types of engagement on the app, has closed a $16 million funding round, the company announced on Thursday. It successfully courted prominent music artists, athletes, and venture capitalists in the process.

But facilitating collaboration for smaller creators who aren't already famous has been harder, and that's where Pearpop wants to work. "These types of deals are happening among the elite already, but a lot of people can't afford to pay the legal fees, reach out to an agent, go through a process where what they can offer to another career isn't enough value to make it worth that kind of burdensome process," Pearpop co-founder Spencer Markel says.
