McDonald's, Target and Gap brand stores now require customers to wear masks

“We’ve for quite some time required our crew to wear masks, but we thought that in light of what we’re seeing, it’s prudent now that we also ask our customers to wear masks in the restaurant as well,” Kempczinski said.

The company announced on July 24 that it will “ask all customers to wear face coverings” when entering its 14,000 U.S. restaurants effective August 1.

Requiring customers to wear masks 'easier said than done'

Viral videos and reports of customer outbursts over mask requirements in retail stores have become another part of the new normal as the coronavirus continues to spread in the U.S.

With upset consumers on either side of the debate, dealers are grappling with whether to put their own mandates in place and how to handle any resulting customer protest. Many auto retailers have required employees to wear masks since spring. More of them are now telling customers they must wear them, too, as public health recommendations grow stronger and local and state governments increasingly require masks in retail outlets.

During the pandemic, direct sales to customers of veggie burgers are booming - Portland Press

Maine is home to at least five veggie burger companies, and despite – or because of the pandemic – most are reporting increased demand and a broadening customer base. That’s not to say it’s been easy.

Blue Mango, the state's most widely known veggie burger company, has been the hardest hit by the pandemic. At the start of March, the company was selling its two burger varieties in 462 restaurants across New England.

Veggie burgers are pre-cooked and ready to pan-fry, grill, microwave or even toss in a toaster oven. They are delicious on a bun; however that's not all they can do. Here are some other ways to use veggie burgers.

BPUB asks customers to conserve electricity

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board is asking customers to conserve electricity for the next two weeks, Aug. 1-14. This request is being made as part of a call by AEP Texas to limit or reduce electrical use to preserve the Rio Grande Valley energy grid.

AEP Texas is working with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to continue serving customers in the Rio Grande Valley, including BPUB customers, but the area's electric grid is expected to be strained during the time necessary to construct and repair the transmission line segment.

Ephemeral Florals Pop Up at Buckhead Storefront - Buckhead

A SCAD Atlanta graduate has taken over an 827-square-foot storefront in the Buckhead Village District between Hermès and Canali. Skye Lin, an artist with a background in fine art, installations, and sculptures, has created an otherworldly experience in this cozy little storefront. She first started working with flowers during the 2020 shutdown when she began constructing floral arrangements in her home and gifting them to friends and neighbors.

The pop up, called Pinker Times, offers an immersive experience with artful floral displays and ephemeral soundscapes alongside arrangements and bouquets for sale. The flowers Lin uses are almost exclusively bought from local growers like Chattahoochee Queen and 3 Porch Farm. Over the course of two months the installation will continue to evolve as new flowers are brought in and Lin creates new works in the space.

Here's why IT departments need predictive analytics

Increasing automation and digitization is inevitable. More companies are transferring their operations to IT systems, and more of these operations are being automated.

However, what isn't inevitable is the rise in IT failures and periods of downtime that digitization and automation entail. Businesses are losing billions of dollars per year from IT downtime.

Fortunately, the increasing use of AI-based predictive analytics can root out problems before they even arise.

Making Data Analytics Available to Users Across the Enterprise | CIO

Like a river tumbling down a mountain, the process of data analytics never stands still. It's always on the move, evolving with new technologies and strategies for extracting business value from ever-larger volumes of data. Today is no exception, as we move into the era of the consolidated data lake that separates compute and storage to enable analytics applications across the enterprise.

More on that point in a moment, but first let's consider the backstory — the evolution of big data and data warehousing. When I started in this work 20 years ago, businesses were challenged to gain intelligence from ever-growing datasets in as close to real time as possible. These efforts led the way for a groundbreaking architecture called Massively Parallel Processing (MPP), or data sharing across multiple commodity servers with Direct Attached Storage (DAS).

Meet The Black Woman Behind This New Online Vintage Marketplace

Kim-Parker’s goal with the innovative marketplace was to show how much diversity there was in vintage shopping despite the limited scope shown by mainstream boutiques and brands. “One of the perceptions I want to change is that this market is niche. “This is also an incredibly diverse industry—there are so many amazing Black, brown, and queer stores and sellers on our platform from across the US, as well as stores and sellers who specialize in plus-size vintage. How the pandemic is accelerating e-commerce's shift to the marketplace model – Glossy

The coronavirus pandemic has accelerated a number of trends that were emerging before it began. That includes the increasing shift in e-commerce from a wholesale model, where the seller buys inventory from brands and sells it online, to a marketplace model, where third-party sellers sell directly through the platform.

These marketplaces can take different forms. For example, some handle all the logistics and shipping. Some, like Farfetch, sell inventory from small boutiques and retailers rather than directly from brands.
