Reference: Visit websiteSydney Winter Barnes, a 2019 UNC Charlotte graduate and a native of Gastonia, opened her mobile shop, the Traveling Sip, in 2023. Since then, she has traveled around Gaston County and the surrounding area selling coffee and other drinks.
"I went to UNCC for business, finance specifically. I've always wanted a business. I've always enjoyed coffee, so the two just kind of worked," she said.
Barnes, 27, first looked for a storefront in Cramerton, "and that just didn't really work out," she said.
She often sets up her mobile shop in Dallas, and she learned of an empty storefront near the old courthouse.
She plans to expand her menu, selling pastries as well as coffee, and she hopes to open her shop at the end of March.
"I really enjoy just people in general. I just want everybody to come and enjoy the experience and enjoy the people that are serving them, the people they get to meet at the shop," she said.
