As a CEO, time is your most valuable resource, and the effectiveness of your LinkedIn presence depends on how well you use it. While building a strong personal brand and engaging with your audience is vital, understanding which metrics truly matter is the secret to optimizing your efforts.

LinkedIn analytics can provide invaluable insights into how your content performs, who engages with it and the impact of your thought leadership. However, not all metrics are created equal. Here's a guide to the metrics that matter most for CEOs—and how to use them to make informed decisions.

Profile views indicate how often people are drawn to learn more about you. A spike in profile views usually suggests that your recent posts resonated, your profile appeared in search results or you've engaged effectively with others.

Profile views are a leading indicator of visibility. A high number of views signals growing interest in your brand, which can translate into business opportunities, talent attraction and thought leadership recognition.

Impressions reflect the number of times your post was seen in someone's feed. It measures the breadth of your reach but doesn't necessarily mean engagement. I tend to look at my total monthly impressions rather than smaller increments (weekly or daily). This depressurizes the performance of a single post, which can be impacted by competing headline news, people being less active on a given day and other more random variables.

Impressions provide a high-level view of how far your message is spreading. For CEOs looking to influence a broader audience, growing impressions is critical.

• Analyze which types of content drive the most impressions, like personal stories, industry insights or team highlights.
