Despite Delta variant concerns, Walmart reported this week that in-store sales are up while e-commerce is down. Such is the shifting state of affairs for retailers.

Gwinnett congresswoman unveils legislation to revitalize dead shopping malls

U.S. Rep. Carolyn Bourdeaux, D-Suwanee, pitched legislation during a Wednesday press conference while standing in front of empty storefronts and under worn ceilings in Gwinnett Place Mall.

The county purchased most of Gwinnett Place Mall , which has fallen into disrepair in recent decades, for $23 million earlier this year.

Delta Variant Looms Over Rebound in Clothes Shopping - WSJ

Macy's Inc., Kohl's Corp. and Coach parent Tapestry Inc. reported big quarterly sales gains on Thursday, but it is unclear how long the shopping spree will last in the face of new pandemic restrictions to counteract rising coronavirus cases.

Macy's sales at stores open at least a year jumped 62% in the three months to July 31, compared with a year ago. Same-store sales also grew slightly compared with the same period in 2019. Net sales of $5.65 billion exceeded both 2020 and 2019 levels.

Back-to-School Shopping Buoys Target's 2Q Sales | Twin Cities Business

Whether consumers shop in stores or online, they're continuing to spend loads of cash at Target . That was one of the takeaways from the retailer's second quarter earnings report released Wednesday morning.

Target Corp. reported second quarter total sales of $24.8 billion, a 9.4 percent increase from the same quarter a year ago. The retailer's profit also grew: Target's quarterly net earnings jumped 7.4 percent to $1.8 billion. That came on top of substantial revenue growth a year ago.

Amazon now wants to reinvent the in-store shopping experience - FreightWaves

The long-rumored Amazon move into malls could be coming soon, according to a new report. The Wall Street Journal, citing "people familiar with the matter," reported on Thursday that Amazon plans to open several retail locations in Ohio and California.

The article said the locations would be about 30,000 square feet, which is a little less than one-third the size of a traditional department store and akin to a current Best Buy location.
