U.S. retail sales rise sharply, but customers are paying more due to high inflation - MarketWatch

The numbers: Sales at retailers rose sharply in September in a sign that Americans are spending enough money to sustain an economic recovery, but they are also paying more because of the highest U.S. inflation in three decades.

Retail sales climbed 0.7% last month after after a nearly 1% gain in August, the government said Friday . Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had forecast a 0.2% decline.

Kohl's will offer discounts to customers who opt for store pickup for holiday season orders -

Kohl's Corp. KSS, +1.67% will offer a $5 discount on qualifying orders periodically throughout the holiday season to customers who choose to pick up their orders at one of the department store chain's 1,100 locations. Most orders are ready in an hour.

Citigroup said the bank's digital strategy is causing more customers to interact with it over digital and mobile devices than ever before, a transformation it plans to continue.
