Skio raises $3.7M to help brands on Shopify sell subscriptions – TechCrunch

Kennan Davison, an engineer who previously worked at Hulu and Pinterest, founded the startup in April.

It claims to use modern frameworks that allow it to "build much quicker" than existing offerings.

Skio must be doing something right. Already, it has a number of customers, including Bev, MatchaBar, Remedy Organics, Quokka Brew, Muddy Bites, Barukas, Simulate, Red Bay, Dandelion Chocolate, Siete Foods, Doe Lashes and Backbone.

Shares of Shopify Inc. Cl A SHOP, +3.56% rallied 3.56% to C$1,840.00 Thursday, in what proved to be an all-around favorable trading session for the Canadian market, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index GSPTSE, +0.71% rising 0.71% to 21,218.93.

We received yet another reminder today that Canada's economy is disproportionately built on housing. Output from the real estate, rental and leasing sector rose 0.8 per cent in October. That was the biggest gain since December 2020, Statistics Canada.

According to eMarketer, consumers will spend $4.9 trillion shopping online this year, and that figure is expected to grow at an annualized rate of 10.7% to reach $7.4 trillion by 2025. Even then, e-commerce will represent just 25% of total retail spending, leaving plenty of room for future growth.
