Slow shipping times and sold-out items have plagued Amazon since the coronavirus pandemic caused a rush of orders from home-bound people. But the world's largest online retailer isn't the only place to shop online.
With their doors closed, many physical retailers are expanding curbside pickup, which lets people buy items online and pick them up at the parking lot. Some brands are shipping directly to shoppers. And restaurant chains are selling milk and bread for those who can't get a grocery delivery slot.

Orange County Restaurants, Shopping Centers Can Now Reopen – Voice of OC
Orange County can now reopen dine-in restaurants and shopping centers after state health officials approved the County's reopening plans just in time for Memorial Day weekend.
"We continue to see low numbers of Coronavirus cases, and because of that we have reached another milestone. Governor Newsom has allowed Orange County to resume activities, like dining in restaurants and visiting shopping centers, as long as state health measures are followed. This is a much-needed step forward for our business community and our residents," OC Supervisor Andrew Do said in a news release.

A densely populated county like ours finds those conditions difficult to meet. County officials are working with the State to gain approval.

American Eagle, Best Buy, Sephora and others are making sweeping changes for pandemic-era

"Everything was so different," said the 23-year-old from Missoula, Mont. "If anything, it made the virus feel more real."
Across the country, stores are reopening to a changed reality. Retailers that have spent years trying to get customers to linger, in hopes they'll buy more than they need, are reimagining their stores for a grab-and-go future filled with deliberate purchases. Gone, they say, are the days of trying on makeup or playing with toys in the aisles. The focus now is on making shopping faster, easier and safer to accommodate long-term shifts in consumer expectations and habits.
