Teacher's Union, PTA Ad Campaign Promotes COVID-19 Aid for Schools - Politics K-12 -
The National Education Association and the National PTA have announced a multi-million-dollar advertising campaign to encourage support for a federal coronavirus relief package that includes designated funding for schools.
The first ad, called "School Is Where the Heart Is," directs viewers to a website that helps them contact members of Congress in support of the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act.
That bill, proposed by House Democrats this week, would create a $90 billlion "state fiscal stabilization fund" for the U.S. Department of Education to distribute to K-12 schools and higher education. And it would provide nearly $1 billion to shore up general state and local budgets, which governors say is necessary to help avoid cuts to education spending. That's on top of aid from the CARES Act, a previous relief bill.

The negative ads released this week by the Trump and Biden campaigns foreshadow a bitter and deeply personal White House race heading into November, with each contender seeking fertile ground to launch attacks on their opponent.
Both campaigns and their affiliated outside groups have already poured millions of dollars into attack ads, a sign that the negativity will only ramp up as the election gets closer.
A Trump Facebook ad released Thursday asks if the former vice president, 77, is "too old" to serve as president, saying, "geriatric mental health is no laughing matter."
DeWine asks McGrath to keep him out of attack ads | TheHill
"Ohioans are focused exclusively on getting through COVID-19 and getting our people back to work, and I'm proud to work with partners at the local and federal level to get it done. It's for that reason that I'm particularly disappointed with an attack ad by Amy McGrath that uses my image against my friend, Mitch McConnell," DeWine, who has received bipartisan praise for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic in his state, said in a statement.
"Mitch and I have worked together for a long time and I know that he is focused, as I am, on this crisis and I appreciate his leadership," he continued. "I ask for the McGrath campaign to remove my image from her advertising immediately."
