Shopify Beats Class Action Alleging Unlawful Texts

Shopify Inc. beat claims in a California federal court that it violated an anti-robocall law by enabling text messages from a retailer that uses the company's online platform.

No "significant facts" showed Shopify sent the messages, Judge Haywood Gilliam of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, wrote Wednesday in granting the company's motion to dismiss the case.

Shopify revenue surges as more businesses sell more goods online | Ad Age

Shopify reported first-quarter revenue that topped analysts' estimates as businesses moved swiftly online during the coronavirus pandemic.

Sales grew by 47 percent to $470 million from the same quarter a year ago, Ottawa-based Shopify said in a statement Wednesday. Analysts had expected about $443 million, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

"We are working as fast as we can to support our merchants by re-tooling our products to help them adapt to this new reality," CEO Tobi Lutke said in the quarterly release.
