One analyst is forecasting a back-to-school bust this year, as uncertainty around whether COVID-19 will prevent students from going to class suppresses sales during the second largest shopping season of the year.
Colleges and school districts are slowly announcing their plans for the new semester, with some offering classes in person, and others offering e-learning from home or some combination of the two.
Parents, unsure about what exactly the situation will be, are likely to hold off on the usual back-to-school shopping spree, experts and analysts say.

Sales tax holidays 2020: States with back-to-school tax-free shopping
Students might not go back to school in person this fall, but back-to-school sales tax holidays are still happening.
Sixteen states will hold sales tax holidays to help families get ready for the upcoming school year. The savings, which are usually on clothes and school supplies, are open to all.
Alabama's three-day holiday is first, kicking off Friday. Mississippi and Tennessee will start their annual holidays July 31. Thirteen other states offer tax-free shopping in stores and online in August, most on the first weekend of the month.

Thamyres Ponce, 32, was charged with one count of child neglect, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

One deputy broke a window and removed the child. Paramedics found she had a temperature of 102 degrees Fahrenheit and was treated at the scene and expected to be OK, according to the report.
Ponce was released on bond Monday night. According to court records she had no previous criminal history. Jail records did not list an attorney for her.

Walmart says shoppers must wear masks inside its stores starting Monday — the largest retailer to join a growing list of companies making face covering mandatory across the nation.
"Shopping in a store is a privilege, not a right," the retail trade group NRF said in a statement on Wednesday. "If a customer refuses to adhere to store policies, they are putting employees and other customers at undue risk."

What's next for the Sopris Shopping Center?
While rezoning Carbondale Center Place, LLC seemed like a no brainer, the long-term plans for the property gave trustees pause on July 14. The property currently hosts the Sopris Shopping Center and Sopris Self Storage: two different uses in different zone districts. The proposal before the board — and already backed by the Planning and Zoning Commission — would have allowed a new plat to split the lot, with mixed use zoning on the west side and commercial transitional to the east.
