Walmart's marketplace doubles in a year: report | Retail Dive

The number of sellers on Walmart's marketplace has doubled to more than 50,000 since July 2019, according to a report from Marketplace Pulse . More than 5,000 new sellers have joined the platform since the retail giant announced its partnership with Shopify last month.

Since the beginning of 2020, the number of items available for sale on Walmart's marketplace has dropped from more than 50 million to about 36 million, according to the report. The decrease in product offerings stems from a few large marketplace sellers delisting their catalogs, particularly in the books and home categories, per the report.

U.S. economy shrank at record-breaking 33% rate last quarter - Marketplace

The audio attached to this post features an interview from the "Marketplace Morning Report" with Diane Swonk, chief economist at the tax and advisory firm at Grant Thornton.

“ What’s important is the losses were so broad-based,” she told host David Brancaccio. “We saw them in every single category, even in government spending where increases at the federal level offset declines at the state and local levels, which were quite steep.”

Ron Howard on his documentary 'Rebuilding Paradise' - Marketplace

In the early morning on Nov. 8, 2018, the town of Paradise, California, was ravaged by the Camp Fire — the largest wildfire in California's history. Within hours, more than 95% of Paradise had burned down, displacing 50,000 people, 85 of whom did not survive.

Ryssdal: OK. So to this film, and your personal ties to Paradise. It’s a little bit brutal. The first eight minutes are the fire itself, told through, obviously, footage that you and your staff went out to get. I guess that the opening question is, what was it like for you to get up there after the fire and look around?

Robots are getting personal during the pandemic - Marketplace

This week on “Marketplace Tech,” we’re reporting on the innovations that will help us transition to a post-pandemic future. One of those innovations has been waiting in the wings for a long time: robots.

Molly Wood: It seems like there are lots of different aspects to this. And some of it is maybe someone can’t have their cleaning lady come and they just need help, because we’re cooking at home all the time, making a bigger mess. But there’s also robots in the context of medicine and companionship. Talk a little bit about these various roles that we’re seeing become more necessary.

Will telehealth continue after the pandemic passes? - Marketplace

Treasure Valley Dermatology is a relatively new clinic in Boise, Idaho. But it's only within the last few months that the clinic started seeing patients over a screen.

"Telehealth was something that we got into when the COVID pandemic really started to hit the area," said dermatologist Dustin Portela .

Portela said that his profession requires a lot of in-person exams, but telehealth has worked great for following up with patients.
