Card Companies, Surprised by Low Write-Offs, Seek New Customers

(Bloomberg) — Lenders have spent months puzzled by the persistently low delinquencies on their credit cards. Now, they’re seizing the moment.

Card companies Capital One Financial Corp. and American Express Co. said this week they’ve jump-started marketing efforts in recent weeks to bolster their brands and acquire new customers. And they plan to keep up the push through the holiday season.

The consulting firm Accenture recently  found  that almost two-thirds of Americans say their purchasing behaviors are swayed toward companies that support views or causes with which they agree.

Family Video in Quincy tries new strategies to bring in customers

QUINCY (WGEM) -- Many businesses have been forced to find creative ways to bring in customers during the pandemic.

They have added new deals on rentals in hopes that more people will come into the store.

They have also agreed to wipe away any existing fees on accounts to encourage current customers to return.

"First when they mentioned the deal it was just like all late fees are going to get wiped, but then also like there are reasons why maybe somebody would have a previous balance or something on their account," employee George Johnson said. "So things that aren't just late fee related we're going to just wipe that too. As long as you come in and just rent a movie."

Target adds ways for customers to go 'contactless' - MarketWatch

Target Corp. TGT, +0.39% said Thursday that it is launching a number of new ways for customers to go "contactless" during a shopping trip, using technology to reduce the number of touchpoints.

Shoppers can now use the Target app's mobile payment option called Wallet to self-checkout and customers can make a purchase anywhere in the store with a Target worker. The retailer has added 1,000 hand-held devices to manage the increase.
