QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- Holiday hiring is changing as shopping continues to be an everchanging experience throughout this pandemic.

Store managers said they're making adjustments when hiring holiday help to meet a different kind of demand.

"Curb-side pick up has been a big growing thing for us the last several months," Obert said. "We look for it to be expanding through the holiday season as well."

Walmart had reduced its hours in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, store hours were 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

In August, most Walmart stores expanding the closing time to 10 p.m. Before the new coronavirus pandemic, many stores were open 24 hours a day.

On Twitter, Walmart said, "Starting November 14, Walmart stores and Neighborhood Markets will be open 7 AM to 11 PM until further notice.

Amazon launches 'eco-friendly' shopping platform | Amazon | The Guardian

The platform was launched in the US in September and is being rolled out this week to the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. It supports Amazon's wider commitment to reach the Paris Agreement 10 years early and be at net zero carbon by 2040.

Hy-Vee to introduce automatic shopping cart cleaning system | KELOLAND.com

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (KCAU) — Hy-Vee, Inc. is introducing an automated cleaning system that fully cleans and sanitizes shopping carts after every use.

According to a press release, by mid-November, more than 200 Hy-Vee stores across its eight-state region will have a Sterile Cart system in operation. Hy-Vee is the first grocery chain to implement a fully automated sanitization system across its company.

The system will clean several carts quickly and consistently, eliminating the need for store employees to manually clean each cart throughout the day. Additionally, it cleans and sanitizes the entire cart and not just the handles and high-touch areas.
