"Black Diamond Club business owners launched The Benevolence Campaign as a way to serve their local communities and generate awareness of businesses that remained open. In this campaign, some businesses would open a tab at a local restaurant and post on social media welcoming anyone to order off the menu, complimentary of the business," notes Dr. Book. "We really didn't have enough money to do any kind of small business program that would really make a difference with everybody, so what we did is put this program together and get people shopping at these businesses … (We) want their presence in the businesses, where possible," Scheckel said.

Vermont Business Magazine Green Mountain Power (GMP) is urging safety for customers as forecasters call for potentially strong pop-up thunderstorms across much of Vermont Wednesday afternoon, followed by sweltering heat Thursday and Friday. GMP is reminding customers to stay away from lines and trees if high winds take them down, and crews will respond as quickly and safely as possible.
"We are watching this weather situation closely, and want customers to be alert for potential storms today, and the need to keep cool and hydrated through the week if temperatures rise as forecasted," said Mike Burke, chief field operations executive for GMP.

Duke Energy reports record number of reported scam attempts against customers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WSPA) – In June, Duke Energy reported a record number of scam attempts against customers.
They say scams targeting electric and natural gas customers are on the rise, with impostors using new tactics during the pandemic to trick utility customers out of money and personal information.
June 2020 was the highest single month on record for reported scam attempts targeting Duke Energy customers, hitting more than 4,000, the company said in a press release on Wednesday.

Power outages worsened on Wednesday morning, as crews have worked throughout the day to restore outages from the prior evening.
But the afternoon saw tens of thousands more homes and businesses losing electricity as temperatures soared into the 90s.
At about 6:30 p.m., DTE Energy reported that 34,472 customers were without power, with 356 crews in the field working on restoration efforts.
