How Dating Became a 'Market' - The Atlantic

E ver since her last relationship ended this past August, Liz has been consciously trying not to treat dating as a "numbers game." By the 30-year-old Alaskan's own admission, however, it hasn't been going great.

Liz has been going on Tinder dates frequently, sometimes multiple times a week—one of her New Year's resolutions was to go on every date she was invited on. But Liz, who asked to be identified only by her first name in order to avoid harassment, can't escape a feeling of impersonal, businesslike detachment from the whole pursuit.

TMC20: vHub Launches Trailer Sharing Marketplace | Benzinga

With as many as three trailers for every tractor in the United States, and estimates ranging from 15% to 25% or more of trailers on highways running empty, solutions to solving this problem have eluded some of the top minds in the industry.
Part of the problem lies in the way fleets utilize trailers, but part of it is simply a matter of logistics: too many trailers in too many areas with no outbound loads.

A startup based in Saint Georges, Quebec, Canada, believes that building a sharing marketplace can help solve this problem.

Vendors flood Amazon Marketplace with face masks as Coronavirus fears escalate | Thinknum Media

So far, the World Health Organization hasn't declared the novel coronavirus a global pandemic, but Amazon ( $NASDAQ:AMZN ) sales data shows that shoppers are beginning to prepare for whatever lies ahead.

Standard surgical masks do little or nothing to protect from the coronavirus, but N95 respirators have been shown to be effective. As we reported two weeks ago , sales for the specialized masks are already charting at Amazon.

* * *

At the end of January, when N95 masks were first identified as being effective against the virus, the number of available masks on Amazon jumped from 1 to 38 individual items. Within days, however, that number dropped back to just 7 by February 18, likely as the items sold out.

Overstock.com withdraws protest of GSA's commercial e-marketplace solicitation - FedScoop

The General Services Administration can award commercial e-marketplace pilots sooner than expected after Overstock.com withdrew its protest of the plan Monday.

Overstock filed a pre-award bid protest with the Government Accountability Office on Jan. 15, citing ambiguous terms that could restrict competition and insufficient time for companies to respond.

The internet retailer withdrew the protest without explanation 10 days after GSA responded with its agency report. The filings in the case are covered by a protective order limiting disclosure to lawyers for the private parties. Overstock's attorney did not respond to a request for comment on the reason for withdrawal.

Car insurance algorithms appear to target overpaying customers, analysis finds- Marketplace

Normally, the algorithms used to calculate how much you pay for car insurance are pretty opaque from the customer’s point of view. While some state regulators have a handle on it, when you call for a car insurance quote, where does that number come from? Your age? Driving record?

Well, maybe a big factor is just your ability to pay, like the person who gets charged more at the flea market because the seller spotted a Gucci bag on the shoulder and a Rolex on the wrist.
