What Is Facebook Marketplace and How Do You Use It? | MakeUseOf

Selling your used goods has never been easier thanks to websites like Craigslist, which let you sell your previously loved items online. However, being able to buy and sell goods from your Facebook account using Marketplace adds an extra layer of convenience.

You can post advertisements to sell everything from used clothing to previously loved books. In addition, you can search for goods you want to buy. Often times, the items on Facebook Marketplace have been previously used but sometimes you get lucky and can purchase brand new items.

Retailers get ready for surge in online holiday sales - Marketplace

We're expecting record online sales this holiday season — Adobe predicts a 33% increase compared to 2019 — and that's putting stress on retailers that never expected to handle this many packages at their fulfillment centers.

Walmart is converting 42 warehouses that normally ship products to its stores so it can also fulfill online orders.

It’s more complicated than it might sound. If you're shipping products to stores, you tend to move stuff around in large units — pallets filled with cases of diapers or video games, for example.

Ahead of the holidays, retailers compete on store safety - Marketplace

If you look at the websites of major retailers right now, you'll find long lists of their COVID safety precautions. Some you might be familiar with: plexiglass shields, mask requirements, limits on the number of customers allowed in the store at one time.

"A lot of retailers are offering reservations in certain areas, where people can come in, meet with a specific shopper, kind of get all of their shopping done at once. Or like at Target, for example, they can reserve a spot in line," said Lauren Beitelspacher, who teaches marketing at Babson College.

U.S. was top seller to China during Singles Day - Marketplace

Consumers in China spent more than $100 billion online during the country's largest e-commerce sales splurge, Singles Day, which this year ran from the first of the month until yesterday.

The Singles Day shopping event is bigger than online sales in the U.S. during Black Friday, Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday combined. In terms of imported goods, the U.S. was the top seller to China.

But don't get your hopes up just yet American brands. Yes, online sales have been increasing the first nine months of the year by nearly 10% compared to the same period in 2019, but, overall, retail sales from January to September are still down 7.2% because of the pandemic.

When will the 2020 election be certified? - Marketplace

It's been nearly a week since the Associated Press officially called the 2020 presidential race for former Vice President Joe Biden . But the election won't be certified for weeks to come.

While President Donald Trump's refusal to concede is unprecedented, the certification process is not. It happens after every general election to ensure the accuracy of the vote count. But certification is getting a lot of attention this election, with the Trump campaign filing lawsuits in key states in an attempt to slow the process. So what is election certification, when does it end and will the lawsuits have any effect on the outcome?

Pre-filled tax forms would save time and money during filing - Marketplace

There are any number of goals, changes and reforms that the incoming Biden administration could potentially tackle. Some are already expecting reforms or changes to the U.S. tax system.

David Brancaccio : Tax simplification is hard. Actually, any reform, not just of the tax rate, but of the structure of the tax system, is hard. I mean, look at what we have now — the word “pastiche” comes to mind.

Chris Farrell : I love that word. I mean, that is really a great word for these exemptions, exclusions, deductions, credits, carve-outs, income phase-ins, income phase-outs. I mean, look, economists just despair. They despair at the waste from the billions of hours and billions of dollars spent on filing, administrative compliance costs. And, you know, America’s complex tax code is what’s allowed for these financial maneuvers that let President Trump pay so little in taxes.
