Quite a lot has been going on:

How to spot fake shopping sites and avoid being scammed

Online shopping scams, like the one Black fell for, are on the rise as thieves take advantage of the surge of people flocking to the internet during the pandemic. They do it by creating slick-looking websites pretending to sell gadgets, toys, cleaning supplies and anything else in high demand. To lure you onto the sites, scammers pay for ads on Facebook, Google and other websites.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission says it received a record number of reports from people losing money to online shopping scams in April and May, mostly from people being tricked into paying for face masks, disinfectant wipes and other pandemic-related supplies that never arrived. So far this year, the FTC has received more than 37,000 reports of online shopping fraud, amounting to $27 million in losses.

How to share your shopping list using Amazon Alexa

Amazon on Tuesday announced that you can now ask the Alexa voice assistant, through your phone or an Amazon Echo, to share your shopping list with friends or family.

It's particularly useful now, during the holidays, in case you want to share your kid's gift list with someone. But it's also useful if a family member is at the store and you want to create a quick list of items for them to pick up, or for people who might be vision impaired and want to create and share a list by voice.

Shopping locally for holidays is more critical than ever

* * *

Small retailers and restaurants are relying on us to send a message with our dollars that says, "We've got your back." In 2020, this support is needed more than ever.

About 62% of small businesses report they need consumer spending to return to pre-Covid levels by the end of this year.

Academy gives $2,000 shopping sprees to 4 Season for Caring families

The Georgetown 8-year-old was going to practice hitting the ball with her new mermaid-colored softball bat and catching with her new pink glove. She was then going to go fishing in San Gabriel Park and shoot cans in her backyard using her pink Red Ryder BB gun. At some point, she probably was also going to put on her roller skates.

Kirstan's new gear was purchased during a shopping spree she and her family went on at Academy Sports and Outdoors. On Friday, the sporting goods store gave four Statesman Season for Caring families $2,000 each in gift cards to buy whatever they wanted.
