Amazon, Flipkart Unhappy With Ecommerce TDS Proposed In Budget 2020

The proposal requires ecommerce operators to deduct 1% TDS on the gross amount of sales or service or both

The Indian government’s proposal of levying 1% TDS (tax deducted at source) on ecommerce transactions in the Union Budget 2020 on Saturday (February 1) has not gone down too well with ecommerce giants Amazon India and Flipkart.

In order to widen and deepen the tax collection pool, the budget had proposed bringing participants of ecommerce (sellers) within the tax net. The budget proposed to insert a new section 194-O to provide a new levy of TDS at the rate of 1%.

Magecart group jumps from Olympic ticket website to new wave of e-commerce shops | ZDNet

A Magecart group has expanded its operations by compromising not only an Olympic ticket reseller but also a number of other websites referencing a single malicious domain hosting the underlying skimmer code.

Magecart is a term used to describe the use of skimmer code to compromise e-commerce payment platforms. Legitimate websites seemingly fine to trust -- the British Airways portal and Ticketmaster being prime examples -- have been infected with this form of malicious code in the past, leading to the theft of consumer payment card numbers.
