Blue Line Bears continues helping families of fallen law enforcement officers with new Cape Coral
CAPE CORAL,Fla. — Caring for the families of fallen law enforcement officers, that's the mission behind Blue Line Bears. Opening not only their hearts, but their doors to the public with a new storefront, hoping to help more families in a time of need.
"This is our first like real big step forward as far as like expanding our brand and everything so it's very very exciting. So the whole point of the store is to have a place for people to come and volunteer and sew and all sorts of things and it's also a place where people can come and buy merchandise we have for sale," said Megan O'Grady, founder of Blue Line Bears.
Here's what NYC needs to do to start its economic comeback
Abandoned storefronts are ruinous to landlords, who must still make payments on mortgages, taxes and utilities. The loss of retail rent is disproportionately damaging because stores typically pay much more per square foot than do office and apartment tenants. The city's entire lender-landlord-tenant balancing act is on the brink, and a new wave of retail failures could collapse it.
The crisis won't fix itself. Our most urgent needs are to halt the government-driven creation of more brick-and-mortar shops at a time when consumers increasingly shop online, and to reduce the nation's most unfair and destructive taxes on retail venues of every size and shape.
Girl Scouts are back and selling their coveted cookies at storefronts
“I honestly didn’t think we were going to do Girl Scouts because of COVID,” said Calleigh Simmons, a local Girl Scout. “I was very excited to get the news we were going to be out here.”
The Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida saw about a 13% drop in sales last year because of the virus. This year called for a scaled-down operation.
“Usually we have 80-90 booths a year,” said Troop co-leader Michael Tiso. “This year we got 20.”

New businesses open in downtown Framingham despite a year characterized as one of economic
FRAMINGHAM — Despite a year characterized as one of "economic survival," five businesses opened in the city's downtown core in 2020, with six more expected to follow suit this year.
Downtown Framingham Inc., a nonprofit whose mission is to build business and community, recently released an annual report that highlighted a handful of new business openings and a declining vacancy rate among first-level downtown storefronts.
"While 2019 was a year of economic growth downtown, 2020 was the year of economic survival," Courtney Thraen, executive director of Downtown Framingham Inc., wrote in the report. "2019 closed with a 7% commercial vacancy rate among first-level storefronts in the Central Business District. And even despite a global pandemic, 2021 is on track to close with a commercial vacancy rate of 3% among first-level downtown storefronts if no new closures occur."
Spain: Peaceful protests for jailed rapper see more clashes | World | tulsaworld.com
A fifth night of peaceful protests to denounce the imprisonment of a Spanish rap artist once more devolved into clashes between police and the members of fringe groups who set up street barricades and smashed storefront windows Saturday night in downtown Barcelona.
Catalonia's regional police force said there also was defiance in the city of Tarragona, where groups threw glass bottles at police lines and smashed store windows.
The mob worked its way up the street, smashing store front windows, toppling motorbikes, and mounting barricades with metal street barriers and burning trash containers to slow the police pursuit. Some even took the fight to police lines, forcing officers to use shields to protect them from hurled rocks. Police said that they had identified one "youth" for targeting a police helicopter with a laser for two hours.
