Instagram is working on creator shops and a 'branded content marketplace' for influencers

Zuckerberg also said the company is working on tools that would enable Instagram stars to get paid for promoting products. Creators, Zuckerberg said, "should be able to get a cut of the sales of things that they're recommending and we should build up an affiliate recommendation marketplace to enable that to all happen."

Finally, Instagram is working on a "branded content marketplace" that would help match influencers with sponsors. Zuckerberg noted that such a tool could help enable up and coming talent to monetize and help create a kind of "creator middle class." He didn't disclose how these deals might be structured but said the plan is to offer "very favorable terms" to creators. "We're not building this from the perspective of us trying to make a lot of money."

Bitcoin: Cryptocurrency exchange Binance to launch NFT marketplace

LONDON — Cryptocurrency exchange Binance revealed plans on Tuesday to introduce its own marketplace where users can create, buy and sell digital collector's items known as NFTs.

Nonfungible tokens are a type of digital asset . They're designed to represent ownership of rare virtual items — that could be anything from works of art to sports trading cards like those sold on the popular online basketball collectibles platform NBA Top Shot .

Total sales of these tokens soared to more than $2 billion in the first quarter, according to NonFungible.com, a website that tracks data on NFTs. And that figure doesn't even account for the record-breaking $69 million NFT sold by digital artist Mike Winkelmann (AKA Beeple) at Christie's in March.

Apple releases privacy update that clamps down on data tracking - Marketplace

The day some users welcome but online advertisers dreaded has arrived. Apple’s new privacy feature for iPhones and iPads has started rolling out when you update the unit. It’s a feature that has, for starters, pitted Apple against Facebook.

Apple's privacy feature requires apps that track users' activities across the web to get their express permission before doing so. A pop-up window asks users to opt in to be tracked.

Facebook also says Apple is just trying to nudge more free apps away from an ad-based model and into charging their customers, so Apple can get a cut of those fees.

Genies Launches App, Avatar Marketplace Where Celebrities Drop Goods

The company announced on Tuesday the launch of a mobile app that will let anyone create and style their own Genie, or digital avatar. The new app will also feature a "Drop Shop," a marketplace offering digital accessories and wearables ranging in price from 99 cents to $25 on average.

Items for sale can come from the Genies team and via partnerships with brands yet to be announced. But most of the virtual goods in the store will come from celebrities who drop exclusive products using their own created avatars.

Sometimes, doctors and residencies don't match - Marketplace

And to do that, you first have to “match,” as it’s called, with one of these programs.  

Every year in mid-March, matching videos show up on social media. They’re of medical students finding out where they're going to do their residencies and become practicing doctors. They drink Champagne in rooms full of balloons and cry tears of joy.  

But not everybody has something to celebrate. Every year, there are medical students who don't match. In 2021, there were more than 42,500 applicants for just over 38,000 residencies . That's more than 4,000 would-be doctors who don't — initially — get a spot. By some estimates, there are even more than that. And without a residency, you can't get a license to practice medicine.

GUEST COLUMN: Fuel mandate contradicts the marketplace | Columnists | wcfcourier.com

Business owners like myself and many others across the state take pride in providing consumers with many different fuel options to help meet their needs. But when your state government threatens to put a mandate on your business and forces you to make decisions on the products you can sell, that changes things.

A government mandate runs against the very marketplace that we've worked to build up in Iowa. There isn't a single part of a mandate that puts the trust in the business owner or the consumer. We don't need a mandate on our fuel, and the reasons are laid out clear: It could force our doors to close, raise gas prices, and even mislead consumers on what fuels they can buy.
