After a Year and 2,000+ Trips, Guilford Senior Shopping Service Retires | Zip06.com

Following the shuttering of schools and business closures in March 2020 that heralded what would become an unprecedented health and economic crisis, it took less than two weeks for town officials and community leaders to rally around those who were most at risk from the new virus, putting together an irregular army of volunteers to shop and run errands every week.

Almost exactly a year later, that group will finally disband, having spent thousands of combined hours making over 2,360 shopping trips, putting their own health at risk to protect seniors and people with underlying health conditions who were unable to do it themselves.

"One of the main draws for Paramus buyers are the low taxes," said Lisa Sammataro, a Keller Williams real estate agent in Ridgewood.

Buy online, but be careful lest shopping becomes a COVID compulsion

We're more than a year into the COVID-19 pandemic that has kept most Americans homebound over the past dozen or so months – and often in our sweatpants (or athleisure in my case).

And after that long a stretch spent in oversized vacation tees and Nike leggings so I can transition from work to working out, I'm actually not sure what my style is anymore. But that hasn't stopped me from continuing to order new clothes that could be worn out to the bar or to a party despite my lack of plans – and in a small studio apartment with closet space filled to the brim, I certainly don't need more options.

Trader Joe's Eyes Improved Shopping Experience For Those With Special Needs - Disability

Trader Joe’s is looking to make it easier for people with autism and intellectual disabilities to shop in its grocery stores.

The card decks include one focused on “checking out your items” and another about “sensory experiences in the store,” among others. Each provides visual cues, step-by-step instructions and audio to walk users through tasks.

“Grocery stores can be challenging places for individuals with autism, but the basic necessity of buying food and the simple pleasure of selecting what you plan to eat is vital for all people,” said Nadia Hamilton, who was inspired by her brother with autism to create Magnusmode, which makes the free app. “Trader Joe’s MagnusCards provide support for a critical skill set that everyone needs and a fun experience that everyone deserves.”

HONOLULU (KHON2) — You may have heard of “retail therapy,” but how about “revenge shopping?”

That’s what retailers are calling this trend. As consumers head back to stores, shoppers are jonesing to spend some cash, looking to make up for time lost during the pandemic.

Small businesses, especially ones that didn’t have a sizable online presence throughout 2020 are expected to see a boost in sales. The National Retail Federation is predicting an increase in consumer spending of at least 6.5% in 2021, compared to the previous year.

Amazon goes shopping at the mall – RetailWire

Amazon.com has been on a buying spree that provides further proof that Americans have changed their shopping habits in recent years and, most notably, since the novel coronavirus pandemic hit the U.S. What has Amazon been buying? The answer in a word — malls.

NBC News reports that the retail and technology giant received approvals last month in Baton Rouge, LA, and Knoxville, TN, to transform malls in those locations into distribution facilities. Amazon also got the okay to do the same at a mall in Worcester, MA, in December.
