Shopping Angels delivering groceries during COVID-19
TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - COVID-19 has made grocery shopping a much more daunting task for people at greater risk to the virus. Shopping Angels is sending out volunteers to shop and deliver groceries to the elderly.
A University of Nevada student started the program last month and it has spread across the country — and even has a local group in Tucson. Volunteers receive a shopping list, budget and money from the person in need of service. The volunteer delivers the groceries to the person's home for free.
How Coronavirus Is Changing Shopping Habits
"What's the point of having a cute bathing suit and tops from Reformation if I'm going to be sheltering at home for the next three months?" a friend of mine recently asked. She paused. "Or if I'm dead?"
She had purchased her haul of new clothing several weeks ago in preparation for now-canceled trips to Miami and Mexico City, and she wants to return the whole lot. "I'm just really mad because I wanted to wear it," she says, "and not be buying cheap toilet paper at a discount store, like I did just now."
