What is a Metric in Google Analytics?

Metrics are key to finding out how your website is performing. Without knowing where you stand, you can't further optimize your website SEO.

Metrics are quantitative measurements tracking different events on your website . There are many metrics in Google Analytics (more than 200) , but not all will be useful to you.

All of your Google Analytics reports are made up of building blocks known as dimensions and metrics. Google Analytics is organized in a table format, where each row is a dimension and each metric is a column. It's important to understand the different between the two and how they work together.

A closer look at Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics | ZDNet

The guiding notion is getting as close as possible to a single source of truth, which in this case amounts to converging the data warehouse, data lake, and data integration.

At one end, you have database developers skilled in working with SQL, whereas at the other end of the spectrum, data scientists and developers working off the data lake have typically worked with programmatic analytics in languages such as Python.

So, the result is you have different workload characteristics, different data types, and different access patterns. That's the same rationale that spawned data warehouses years ago, as query and reporting workloads interfered with operational systems. But with Azure Synapse, Microsoft is seeking on the analytics side to bring the poles together. Although Azure Synapse is a generally available service today, the expanded platform is barely six months out of the gate.

TechTalk with Proof Analytics chairman and CEO Mark Stouse | PR Week

Proof Analytics delivers a marketing mix modeling (MMM) analytics solution. It allows companies to understand the relative impact and ROI of their marketing initiatives, and optimize accordingly, correct?

Yes. MMM has been around for maybe 30 years as a marketing thing, and it's been a big deal with Fortune 500 companies for about that long. It's nothing more than applied regression analytics, the same math used in most areas of science, including things like pandemics or climate change or anything that involves a large network effect involving many factors.

Data analytics — dare we say AIOps? — and automation rescue operations team in times of crisis

The evolution of IT from physical to virtual resources, such as VMs, containers, virtual networks and cloud services, has created an explosion of operational data since each is a source of increasingly granular telemetry.

New products illustrate the various ways companies are employing machine learning, data analysis and innovative data structures to analyze operational event streams and metrics reinforces a point I made almost a year ago, that AIOps is a product feature , not a category. As I put it:

Scalyr Alters Log Analytics Economics - DevOps.com

Scalyr today announced that its log analytics cloud service is now capable of ingesting over 200TBs of data per customer per day in real-time .

Company CEO Christine Heckart said the goal is to make as much log data available at a price point that will continue to be less than $5 per GB at scale.

Heckart said Scalyr expects to be able to continue to expand the amount of data it makes available to customers because its namesake platform is built on top of a columnar data store rather than an index engine. The goal of a project dubbed Sonic Boom is to eventually make a petabyte of data available to customers of the cloud service, she said.

Using HR analytics to understand employee 'risk of flight' - learnings from Merck KGaA

Estimates of how much it costs to replace an employee when they leave an organization can range anywhere from 15% to 40% (or more) of the leaver's yearly salary, depending on their seniority. Whatever the true percentage, one thing is certain - it's expensive. So identifying those people who are a potential flight risk, and just as importantly, finding a way to keep them or prevent others leaving, can save organizations big bucks.

It's a question global science and technology company Merck KGaA is keen to explore. Using people analytics and planning tech from Visier to reconcile and aggregate HR data about its 57,000 staff across the 66 countries it works in, the company built a model to look at people who leave the company in the first 12 months of tenure. Adam McKinnon, advanced people analytics practitioner at Merck KGaA, explains:
