Luxury Marketplace Takes A Virtual Turn | PYMNTS.com

The House Of Luxury (HOL) had just opened its new signature gallery in London's posh Mayfair district when the COVID-19 crisis broke in London. And it wasn't just any luxury items that were in stock there. The inventory was a menu of the most expensive goods in the world, from Franck Muller watches to Bvlgari to Alessa Jewelry to Aisha Baker. At that time, as a nonessential retailer to most of the populous, it was closed down with the rest of the city as the virus took hold.

Enter Elio D'anna. He founded the company in 2009 with 100 pounds after a stint in the music business. He is a graduate of Berklee School of Music, where he majored in orchestration and composition, and for a time was signed to Universal. The tech team that he worked with in the music business is the same one that he brought to HOL, and together they are responsible for the quick pivot into what he calls "virtual experiential retailing."

Splash pad, beer garden, hotels planned for former Oro Valley Marketplace

TUCSON, Ariz. — Developers have big plans for the formerly named Oro Valley Marketplace, including hotels, apartment complexes and a new outdoor gathering area.

The new retail center will be called the Oro Valley Village Center, which occupies the area near Oracle and Tangerine. Plans include two new apartment complexes and two new hotels -- one of each near the two entrances of the center.

Perhaps most notably, the plans include a so-called "entertainment district" at the center of the retail area, in between the Walmart, movie theater and eastern retail area. Plans for this area include a small wade-in pool, two splash pads, a mini-golf course, a beer garden, playgrounds and an outdoor space for events.

Supply chains are pulled to the limit during COVID-19 - Marketplace

"This filter's membrane was developed in Massachusetts, it is now cast in Cork, Ireland. The polymers that are used are sourced from a variety of different countries, including China and India. The solvents come from Darmstadt, Germany," said chief exective Udit Batra.

The frames for the filters are made in Mexico. All of that to make one product… that is used to make. … another product

When one small supplier in France was about to shut down due to a lockdown, Batra's company had to step in to get permission for them to keep working. When a plane loaded with components couldn't take off in India, they sought help from the Swiss ambassador and the Indian government.

An independent movie theater operator facing 'great unknowns' - Marketplace

The movie theater business is taking a huge hit from the coronavirus crisis. Studios are delaying the theatrical releases of major films. Analysts say AMC Entertainment, the nation's largest theater chain, is inching closer to bankruptcy , and theater operators big and small are trying to figure out what their businesses will look like if they can’t pack rooms full of people for a good, long while.

Stephanie Silverman is one theater operator on the smaller end of the scale. She’s the executive director of the Belcourt Theatre , a nonprofit film center in Nashville, Tennessee, and one of the 10 people we profiled in our series looking at the American labor force called United States of Work .
