Supervisors to discuss storefront cannabis procedures - Santa Barbara News-Press

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday and hold a hearing on the county's storefront retail cannabis selection procedures within the unincorporated areas of Santa Barbara County.

The board will receive an update on the timeline for issuing storefront retail licenses and take up a pair of criteria-based score sheets regarding business operations and neighborhood compatibility, according to the staff report.

The neighborhood compatibility scoring will seek to ensure the retail operation selected fits "seamlessly into the surrounding neighborhood, addresses issues of community concerns and maximizes the benefit to the broader community," according to the staff report.

Ghost Storefront Revealed in NYC's Upper East Side - Untapped New York

A 19th-century storefront has been revealed on Lexington Avenue and East 73rd Street in the Upper East Side Historic District . Photographer Ryan Lahiff spotted the antique signage and ornamentation which had previously been covered up by white paint and scaffolding. With the scaffolding gone and the paint stripped away, those who walk by can see into the past of this historic building.

The storefront was previously occupied by Le Terraine, a store that sold kitchenware. That store has since closed and the awnings which used to hang over the storefront have been removed. The removal of the awnings revealed a splendidly ornate first story cornice that runs nearly the entire length of the Lexington Ave. facade. On the edge of the building, on the East 73rd Street Side, there is a small piece of ornamentation that hangs down with scrolls and acanthus leaves.

How a new plan could revitalize downtown San Jose storefronts - San José Spotlight

The San Jose Downtown Association unveiled a plan Friday morning at its first public meeting since February to hasten the neighborhood’s economic recovery from the devastating effects of COVID-19 — with a focus on filling empty storefronts and keeping existing commercial tenants in business.

Through a grant from the Knight Foundation, SJDA hired Progressive Urban Management Associates , a Denver-based consulting firm that specializes in downtown rejuvenation plans nationwide, to examine the effects of the pandemic on downtown and develop an organized response to help businesses in the area bounce back, and attract new tenants to fill vacant space.

Madisonville's Fleurish Grounds Garage-Turned-Plant Shop Is Getting a Brick-and-Mortar

After zoning issues threatened to shut down Christine Funke's Madisonville garage-based plant shop, the city helped her find a permanent storefront, which should be open this September

The Fleurish Grounds brick and mortar plant shop in Madisonville might be one of the best things to have grown out of COVID-19 for owner Christine Funke.

When the wedding photographer found herself out of work and stuck at home this spring, she began putting her time and energy into her houseplants and realized, "I'm sure if I'm redecorating my house right now, everyone else is doing it, too," she says.

Cannabis Retail Storefront Business License Application Update and Neighborhood Compatibility

The County of Santa Barbara hosted six virtual community meetings in July to receive feedback and answer questions about the amended Cannabis Business License (Chapter 50) regulating cannabis retail storefront licensing.

Chapter 50 (b) limits the number of storefront retail licenses to no more than one in each of six community plan areas. In June and July, County staff received hundreds of written responses about the business application criteria (not applicants or specific sites). In a previous survey, about 350 respondents ranked a list of concerns, as shown below in the order of most to least concerning:

Vacant storefronts are among growing problems on Atlantic Avenue in Virginia Beach, business

VIRGINIA BEACH — Oceanfront business owners and civic leagues are fed up with the state of affairs on Atlantic Avenue, and want the City Council to take action before the situation gets worse.

They also want more officers on the streets and the reinstatement of "friendship patrols," a community policing effort.

Virginia Beach plans to spend $6 million over the next six years to spruce up Atlantic Avenue with new sidewalks, bike racks, trash cans and tree canopies , but some quicker fixes are needed, said B.J. Baumann, chairwoman of the city's Resort Advisory Commission.

Watercolorist Paints Imaginary Japanese Storefronts With Retro Designs

When Polish animator Mateusz Urbanowicz  moved to Tokyo in 2014, he began depicting some of his favorite storefronts in colorful watercolor illustrations . The artist has since continued his passion for cityscapes, but he's taken the drawings in a different direction. Urbanowicz's series New Storefronts depicts imaginary Japanese storefronts inspired by retro architecture styles.

Every building in New Storefronts is based on a prompt given by Urbanowicz's fans on his popular YouTube channel . Included in the collection is the artist's version of a flower shop, a bakery, an art supply store, and a photography shop. Although each one is uniquely fantastical, they all share Urbanowicz's candy-colored palette and charming wiggly linework.
