CMP facing $10 million penalty, some customers think it's not enough

HALLOWELL, Maine (WABI) - Customer service and billing issues are why the Maine Public Utilities Commission is penalizing Central Maine Power $10 million over the next 18 months.

"Some people might not think that's a lot of money, but for Maine, that's a lot of money, and that's a big slap, that's not just a slap on the hand, that is a real tough hit for them," said Barry Hobbins, Maine Public Advocate.

"The word of the day is accountability, and I believe what the commission sent is a message that we expect accountability by this public utility."

Do You Care About Privacy as Much as Your Customers Do?

A 2019 Cisco survey examined the actions, not just attitudes, of consumers with respect to their data privacy. The survey reveals an important new group of people — 32% of respondents — the authors call “privacy actives.” This group says they care about privacy, are willing to act, and have done so by switching companies or providers over data or data sharing policies.

On the other side of the ledger, sharing consumer data or using it in targeted marketing campaigns, to train algorithms, and so forth offers outsized potential . Indeed, not exploiting customer data when your competitors are doing so can put you at a significant disadvantage.

Foot Locker's new marketplace makes customers support environmental causes to buy shoes

In September 2018, Public School co-founder Dao-Yi Chow approached Mel Peralta, head of Foot Locker's innovation incubator, Greenhouse, with an idea to bring together streetwear and sustainability — two worlds that have not had much interaction .

The concept, eventually named O-1, has taken the form of a new marketplace hosted on the Greenhouse app. It will release regular, exclusive products manufactured in a sustainable way from big names in sneakers and streetwear. In order to get access to the products, customers will have to participate in environmental causes, whether through attending environmental seminars or taking part in a beach clean-up.
