Bose to Shutter All Storefronts in North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia - Dealerscope

Due to the overwhelming number of customers purchasing their products through e-commerce, Bose has decided to cease all storefront operations in North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia. The 119 stores will make staggering closures over the next few months, and current employees with receive outplacement assistance and severance.

“It’s still difficult, because the decision impacts some of our amazing store teams who make us proud every day,” the company said in a letter sent to employees. “They take care of every person who walks through our doors – whether that’s helping with a problem, giving expert advice, or just letting someone take a break and listen to great music. Over the years, they’ve set the standard for customer service. And everyone at Bose is grateful.”

SF supervisors vote to expand reach of proposed vacant-storefront tax - SFChronicle.com

Expanding the reach of a potential tax on vacant storefronts, San Francisco on Tuesday approved the creation of 12 new commercial districts. The ordinance passed by the Board of Supervisors means that each area will get its own specific zoning, potentially stricter than the city’s already tight rules for businesses.

A March ballot measure, if passed by voters, will impose a tax on empty storefronts, applicable only to the designated districts. The enactment of this ordinance, which awaits a second vote by the board as a formality, brings the number of districts in the city potentially subject to the tax to more than 30.
