Utilities, Phone Companies Working With Customers Struggling To Pay Bills During Pandemic –

Utility providers like TXU Energy  are waiving late fees, reducing down payments, and extending due dates for payments, while Atmos Energy   is suspending natural gas disconnections.

AT&T , Verizon and T-Mobile are postponing service termination for customers who cannot pay their bills.

T-Mobile is also providing unlimited data to all current customers who have plans with data for the next 60 days.

Target to reserve 1st hour of shopping for vulnerable customers, reduce operating hours

(Nexstar Media Wire) – Target announced Tuesday that stores across the country will take measures to ensure elderly customers and those with underlying health conditions have access to stocked shelves amid a wave of panic-buying caused by the coronavirus.

Starting Wednesday, the first hour of shopping every Wednesday will be reserved for “vulnerable guests,” according to a press release from the retail giant. Target stores will also be closing early, at 9 p.m. local time, so employees can clean and restock the stores.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Gov. Roy Cooper is ordering all restaurants and bars in the state to close for dine-in customers, effective at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday's executive order will also include expansion of unemployment benefits to help workers affected by COVID-19.

"Today I am taking down some of the barriers to unemployment benefits," Cooper said. "Grocery stores will remain open. I urge people not to go overboard. Leave some for others ...Especially for those who can't afford to buy a lot all at once."

Banks inundated with calls from nervous customers – Finance & Commerce

Banks including Wells Fargo & Co., Bank of America Corp., Citigroup Inc. and Capital One Financial Corp. have assured nervous customers that they'll provide assistance to those impacted financially by the coronavirus.

"Call us and we'll make it right," Bank of America Chief Executive Officer Brian Moynihan said Sunday on CBS News' "Face the Nation."

But reaching a representative is proving more and more difficult as customer-service centers are inundated by calls from clients seeking help.

Supermarkets adjust policies to accommodate surge in customers

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Supermarkets are adjusting policies in an effort to accommodate the surge in customers as coronavirus fears sweep the nation.

"Toilet paper, hand sanitizer, Lysol," said the assistant manager of The Market at 25th, Shaaron Atkins-Comfort. "Unfortunately, one of the cans had 'coronavirus' on it so that was a go-to item. You have some customers that you can tell is grabbing more supplies than they need."

List Of Banks Offering Help To Customers Impacted By The Coronavirus | Bankrate

The bank noted that employees are trained to help decide what the right support for an individual customer looks like. A spokesperson for the bank also notes that, "As part of our regular practice, we offer assistance to qualifying consumer and small business clients facing hardships, including forbearance with certain fees."

Effective Monday, March 16, Capital One Cafes nationwide are temporarily closing, the bank's website says, "due to growing public health concern and in an effort to be proactive." Branches in certain areas are also temporarily closing.
