Boston Turns to Data Analytics to Track COVID-19 for Residents
Boston has launched two new data platforms to keep residents up to date on the COVID-19 public health crisis in both the city and across Massachusetts.
Both were created in about a day using ArcGIS Online — a location and data service vendor — and publicly available data from state agencies, said Stefanie Costa Leabo, Boston's chief data officer, speaking with Government Technology .
"Given the rapidly evolving situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, we took it upon ourselves to leverage publicly available tools and data to begin establishing a consolidated view of what was happening in Boston, the commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States as a whole," said Costa Leabo.
How Data Analytics Can Help Solve Supply Chain Pandemic Woes - eWEEK
eWEEK TREND ANALYSIS: The COVID-19 coronavirus has thrown the supply chains for some industries into disarray, but when you add the oil price war into the mix, the result is near chaos. A good analytics program can offer predictive help in situations like this.
What's happening is complex, and it's due in part to sudden changes in demand for some items and a sudden drop in demand for others. Adding to the complexity is a lack of some sources of material to provide supplies at the normal level; then there's a lack of transport for some types of materials.
Analytics, public health and the gospel: What going online is teaching faith institutions in
"There’s a lot of 'amens,' 'save us,' 'do it,' 'preach,' — that talk-back you get," Parker said. "And it’s a little different when you don’t have that."
"It's strange, man, because I like to make a lot of jokes and you pause for laughter and there’s no laughter. Even on the good jokes, there’s no laughter — and that’s kind of funny," he said.
But Parker, Schultz, and others have also been adapting quickly to the changed worship landscape. They're even learning to appreciate it.

Big Data: The Role of Predictive Analytics in Sales Growth
The analysis of a large volume of data is already an indispensable part of the decision-making process for any business, regardless of its volume. Big data is used to resolve routine problems , such as improving the conversion rate or to achieve customer loyalty for an eCommerce business. But did you know that you can also use it to predict situations before they occur?
For online businesses, periodically performing predictive analytics is synonymous with improving your understanding of the customer and identifying changes in the market before they happen. The predictive models extract patterns from historical and transactional data to identify risks and opportunities . Self-learning software will automatically analyse the data at hand and offer solutions for future problems.

How Artificial Intelligence is Going to Make Your Analytics Better Than Ever | 2020-03-31 |
According to a recent IHS Market Video Surveillance Installed Base Report, close to 85 million cameras will be installed in North America alone by 2021. It’s unrealistic to expect security personnel to monitor and manually search through this vast amount of video. Artificial intelligence (AI) presents a perfect solution to compensate for unmanned environments or those with limited staffing, or the loss of vigilance after looking at a screen too long.
AI can help us not only watch continuously, but also feed systems that are able to sort, organize and categorize massive amounts of data in a way that human operators cannot. And it can do so far more reliably than traditional video analytics ever did.
