RICHMOND, Va. - Grocery store chains and other retailers are easing the fears of senior citizens over the coronavirus by reserving shopping times exclusively for them.
Target, Walmart, Whole Foods, Dollar General and supermarkets in Europe began dedicating early morning shopping times for older customers this week.
The theory is that allowing seniors to shop among smaller crowds could reduce their chances of acquiring the virus and give them first crack at buying hand sanitizer and other products that have been hard to find because of panic shopping.
Many things are taking place:
City Market stores begin offering senior shopping hours to start the day Monday, Wednesday and
City Market and King Soopers stores on Friday morning began giving senior citizens first crack at the grocery aisles for an hour, and will do so three days a week.
The rule applies to City Market stores in Garfield County and across western Colorado and eastern Utah.
The Kroger subsidiary announced in a Thursday afternoon press release that the hour from 7–8 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be dedicated exclusively to the shopping needs of senior citizens.

(FOX 2) - Kroger is adjusting its store hours amid the coronavirus emergency to better accommodate re-stocking needs, and to also give senior citizens, expectant mothers and first responders the opportunity to shop without the rush.
Beginning Monday, March 23, Kroger will dedicate the first shopping hour from 7 – 8 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to senior shoppers, expectant mothers, first responders and those with compromised immune systems.

Some Lawrence grocery stores are either expanding or altering their shopping hours to reserve periods for customers considered at high risk during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of Thursday, senior citizens and other vulnerable customers had the option to shop first thing on certain mornings at Hy-Vee, Walmart, Dollar General and Checkers, when the stores should be the most clean and shelves should be more fully stocked.

Older customers and those with special needs will get an extra hour of early-morning shopping at Giant Eagle and Market District stores on Monday through Wednesday.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle supermarket chain will open its stores an hour early - at 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday, starting March 23 - so customers 60 and older and those with special needs can shop before other customers start arriving.

LAS CRUCES - Albertsons, Walmart and Target are among the ever-growing list of national chain stores adding special seniors-only hours, allowing older patrons and those with weak immune systems a chance to shop without large crowds amid Coronavirus concerns.
Albertsons kicked off it's seniors-only shopping hours on Thursday, March 19. The grocery store chain, with 2,000 stores nationwide, stated it will reserve every Tuesday and Thursday, from 7 to 9 a.m., for those vulnerable shoppers who must leave home to obtain their groceries.
