One storefront in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood holds a treasure trove of great food

Depending on when you walk by, Wallingford’s Juisala might look like any other juice bar, serving up açai bowls, smoothies, and juices incorporating nutritious ingredients like beets, turmeric, and celery. But pass the storefront at another time, and the aroma of steaming sticky rice, bubbling porridge, or fragrant ginger scallion sauce pulls you toward the small window a few feet down from the main entrance.

In the last few months, Juisala’s takeout window began hosting a rotating series of rice-centric pop-ups, each hyper-focused on a single style of dish and executing stunningly good, modern interpretations of classic recipes.

Five Questions: Cindy Kittinger leaves brush strokes on windows, walls around town –

Cindy Kittinger's office is everything from a backyard to a storefront. Her tools are paintbrushes of all sizes, rollers and scrapers.

She specializes in painting custom signs on windows, but also paints murals inside businesses, on backyard fences, on different types of surfaces.

Her work, seen all along the Front Range, varies from large lettering to detailed scenes. A bright pink flamingo walks along the wall on a resident's she shed. Colorful birds flutter amid flowers on the windows of a Fort Collins business. A beach scene beckons, promising "Summer all year long."
