The mum of the youngest soldier to die in Afghanistan says she is "appalled" by the Army's new drive to attract recruits lacking in confidence.
"If you're taking on people that are already lacking in confidence, this is something that could ultimately break them," she said.
YouGov research carried out by the Prince's Trust claiming young people believe they are held back by a lack of self-confidence has inspired the campaign, the Army said.

Mike Bloomberg has spent nearly $15 million to be in your Google search results - The Verge
![]()
The 77-year-old former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg is running for president, on a centrist-friendly platform that's mainly premised on beating incumbent Donald Trump. What makes Bloomberg's campaign stand out, however, isn't his positions: it's how much he's spending to get his message out. Google "impeachment," for example, and you'll probably get an ad at the top of the page that promotes Bloomberg's campaign. Same goes for "climate change" and "gun safety.
And those ads aren't cheap. The Bloomberg ad for impeachment reads "Trump's Broken Promises | Enough Is Enough | We Deserve Better," and it's very prominent. Prominence costs money. While Google's political ad transparency report doesn't say exactly how much the ad costs, a similar ad ran for nine days, earned between 1 and 10 million impressions, and cost more than $100,000. And impeachment isn't the only term Bloomberg is targeting.
Australia's Morrison faces fresh fury for bushfire 'campaign ad' - France 24

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison faced renewed criticism Saturday, after sharing bushfire themed party campaign ads that opponents condemned as "disgusting" and a respected defence association said was "milking" the crisis.
Facing sustained anger for his handling of the months-long crisis, Morrison sought to get on the front foot Saturday, announcing increased military assistance to beleaguered volunteer firefighters.
The non-partisan Australia Defence Association, a public-interest watchdog, said the Liberal Party advert was a "clear breach" of conventions keeping the military out of politics and accused the party of "milking ADF support to civil agencies fighting bushfires".
Billings, Montana, to change pioneer-themed ad campaign called out as racist

"Today is ours for the taking — tomorrow too," was the tagline for the Billings Chamber of Commerce Visit Billings campaign . Billboards throughout the city read "Onward Pioneers" and "Conquer New Endeavors."
Alexis Bonogofsky, who writes the blog "East of Billings" wrote a detailed post criticizing the ads on Monday.
"The language being used by Visit Billings is the same language that was used to justify the genocide of Native Americans: onward pioneer, conquer, take, it's ours," Bonogofsky wrote. "Words have definitions. Words have histories. Those words in this geographical place cannot be used without putting them in this context."

ART ad blitz costs city hundreds of thousands, but is it working? | KRQE News 13
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Since the launch of ART, the city has been talking about educating drivers on how to drive in the ART corridor. Now, a new public ad campaign is an effort to do just that.
Stay in your lane. That’s the primary message of the ABQ RIDE ad campaign, but are people listening?
“I myself have accidentally gone into the bus lane,” said Katherine Stroll, an Albuquerque resident. “I went into a lane I wasn’t supposed to, and I was just trying to turn left,” she said.
Pure Michigan ad campaign to go dark next month

"Come Jan. 1, you won't see any advertising for the Pure Michigan campaign, whether it's on bowl games or anywhere else since there was not any restoration of those dollars," said Jeff Mason, CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
The start of a new year will mark the first time in 13 years the Pure Michigan ads aren't playing on cable, broadcast television and radio stations, narrated by actor and comedian Tim Allen, a native of metro Detroit.

CMP aims to restore trust with ad campaign - Portland Press Herald

As part of an effort to improve its tarnished reputation, Central Maine Power is launching a branding and workplace initiative called Power On, which kicked off Wednesday with radio and television ads .
In a statement, the company said the effort includes bringing about meaningful change inside the company to help improve customer service.
State utility regulators have been investigating the root cause, as well as the company’s earnings, and are set to issue findings Jan. 30. The timing of CMP’s campaign sends a signal that, whatever happened in the past, the company is on the path to a better future.
