A San Francisco ballot measure to tax commercial landlords who leave their storefronts vacant prevailed Friday, three days after the polls closed.
Proposition D will hit landlords with a vacancy tax if their storefronts remain unoccupied for more than six months. The measure, which needed a two-thirds majority to pass, was winning 69.62% to 30.38% after Friday’s count, the city’s Elections Department reported.
The numeric totals were 170,723 in favor to 74,495 against. The Elections Department said 29,000 ballots remain to be processed, the vast majority of which are provisional — ballots given to people whose eligibility must be verified before their votes can be counted.

Grand Rapids' Priority Health insurance provider has opened a virtual Amazon storefront, which will allow members who are part of commercial group or individual health plans to order and pay for eligible items using health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts.
The storefront offers items including everything from adhesive bandages to contact solution. Members can add their HSA and FSA debit cards to their Amazon accounts for easy payment and minimal paperwork for reimbursement. Members who choose not to add their cards can submit their receipts for reimbursement.
Car crash barely misses business storefront
CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Castle Perilous Games and Books is cleaning up after a vehicle slammed into the outside tables in front of the building.
Carbondale Police responded to the crash in the 200 block of W. Main St. around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4.

Since leaving a corporate career in technical sales and food science, Priddy, a Fishers resident, aspired to open a coffee shop that could become a home away from home for remote employees, working moms and freelancers, something she said was difficult to find in the area.
Priddy and her husband first operated an espresso cart at the Noblesville Farmers Market and Hamilton Town Center. The demand soon grew, compelling them to purchase and renovate a second food truck.

Lidl shifts its focus to this long-empty storefront in Ocean County
BRICK - Last week, Lidl, the discount grocery from Germany that is opening stores around New Jersey, unveiled its new location on Route 9 in Howell .
Now Lidl is turning its attention to Brick, to a former Cost Cutters storefront that has been sitting empty for years.
There's no word on when the store will open. Lidl has asked the township for a sign variance to allows its blue and yellow signs, which will hang on the building and on the center's pylon sign.
