
The 2019 shopping season looks like it was a strong one. According to one early consumer survey, spending was up 3.4 % this year — and online shopping was up over 18 % compared to 2018. But how did that look from the retailer side of the checkout counter?
Throughout the holiday shopping season, we’ve been following three different business owners to see how their most important shopping season has been going. We called them up one final time in the first week of January to see how it all went down. Here’s what they said.

With companies like Pop Up Grocer, a traveling pop-up grocery store concept, and Allbirds proving out this low-risk strategy, many are now taking their learnings into longer leases. In 2020 and beyond, expect to see more pop-ups expand to fully-fledged brick and mortar locations.
Mold issues close Grand Haven's Chinook Pier shopping center indefinitely | wzzm13.com

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — Pervasive mold issues have closed a popular shopping center in Grand Haven, displacing several local business owners.
Tenants at a building in Chinook Pier discovered mold in one suite last August. Later inspection found mold in air samples of all three of the city-owned buildings on N. Harbor Drive.
Grand Haven spent over $25,000 to remediate the airborne mold. The process has been ineffective and will likely cost much more down the line, Mayor Bob Monetza said.
Night to Shine Dress Shopping will be starting Saturday, Jan.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Night to Shine Dress Shopping will be opening Jan. 11, at the former Herberger’s location at the Rushmore Mall.
There have been over 200 dresses donated — capping the donations off for this year’s Night to Shine. Volunteers are still needed to be buddies or to help put together the function.

Lockhart ISD teachers treated to school supplies shopping spree on district's tab | kvue.com

As they gathered to prepare for the new semester at their "New Year Roar Rally" at the Gerry Ohlendorf Performing Arts Center, the district surprised them by announcing they were about to take them on a shopping spree.
LISD had been working with Walmart for months to order items that teachers could use in their classrooms, including things from school supplies to furniture. Basically, anything item they said could enhance their learning environments.

New Jersey drivers switching to an electric car could see up to $5,000 knocked off the sticker price, as state lawmakers took action on an incentive bill Monday.
The measure ( A4891 ) was approved by two key Assembly committees and will now go to state Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin for review. The bill has also been introduced in the state Senate.
Brazen Thieves Wheel Shopping Carts Filled With Merchandise Out Of Alameda Store – CBS San

ALAMEDA (CBS SF) — Alameda police released surveillance camera photos Monday of four suspects who brazenly wheeled three shopping carts filled with unpaid merchandise out of a Grocery Outlet store.
Police said the incident took place at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Grocery Outlet store located in the 700 block of Buena Vista Ave.
Investigators said the suspects entered the store and worked in unison to steal the merchandise. The adult suspects were accompanied by a Samoan or Hispanic juvenile male approximately 11–12 years old. All five individuals were seen fleeing in a 1990s white and beige Ford Aerostar minivan.
