Stumpy’s Hatchet House plans to move into the property formerly occupied by Dot’s Clothing Store. Construction is expected to get underway on Monday, and the owners hope to open at the end of March or early April.
Stumpy’s places a big emphasis on safety, offering safety training before you even pick up an axe. Stumpy’s will also be available to accommodate company outings and other large groups.
“This is really becoming the next generation so to speak of what was really big with bowling is, kind of transitioning into the hatchet-throwing business,” said Erin Samlock of Stumpy’s Hatchet House.

ROCHELLE – As part of its façade improvement program, the City of Rochelle awarded a longtime local business with the funds needed to improve the front of its building.
Bill’s Trading Post received a check in the amount of $5,000 Thursday that was used to pay for the tuck-pointing to the brick on the front of the building.

A soon-to-be fashion shop in Amsterdam has a new facade that mimics flowing textiles. Designed by UNStudio , a Dutch architecture firm, “The Looking Glass” features three glass panels mounted on the building’s brick front. Each low-iron annealed glass piece is attached with silicone to adjacent panels and has stainless steel edges that form a glass box. Eight millimeters of silicone also sit between the steel to account for any shifts or changes in the pieces.
Extending away from the building, the boxes eventually will be used to display clothing. “In a fluid gesture, fashion and architecture come together to represent and celebrate the craftsmanship and geometry of high-end, tailored clothing, creating harmony between aesthetics and function,” the firm says of the project.

A Whittier storefront between Little Tijuana and Yess Yoga has been empty for years, but it may become home to a new experiment.
The City of Minneapolis purchased the tax-forfeited building in early 2019 with a pilot project in mind. The pilot aims to keep a storefront forever affordable by holding the property in what's known as a land trust.
In recent years, land trusts have been used to provide affordable housing at hundreds of sites across the city, including two nearby condo units at 26th & Nicollet.

So, let's talk about this matter of prohibiting downtown store owners from displaying merchandise outside their stores.
The city has had an ordinance on the books for many years banning such displays, in an effort to avoid clutter and to keep sidewalks clear for pedestrians and so forth.
Car crashes into former Macy's store Downtown
CINCINNATI — A white sedan plowed into the storefront of the former Downtown Macy's store on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
Cincinnati fire crews responded to Fifth and Race Streets for a report of a car that crashed into a building just after 12:30.
