There are three things to consider when shopping for a mask on Etsy's site: comfort, material and personality, advises Johnson. Masks should be breathable and washable, and can be worn comfortably. Though wearing a face mask is a health requirement in many places, that doesn't mean you can't combine safety with style. "As they continue to be an everyday essential, that doesn't mean you can't have a personalized touch and allow shoppers to express their personal style," said Johnson.

Council Post: Let's Fast-Track Contactless Grocery Shopping

So how would a company that's on the fence or considering implementing this technology get started with it? Implementation is simple. A guide is provided for the point-of-sale company to integrate with its store system. The app can be branded and enabled in stores within a few days. The key for retailers is to maximize shopper incentives upon initial uptake of a scan-pay-go app with hyper-personalized offers.

As cited in the Adapting to Realities report, businesses with "clear leadership and vision, purpose and clarity that demonstrate their role in benefiting the whole will be stronger in the new normal." Contactless grocery shopping is that rare solution that benefits retailers, workers and shoppers alike. It needs to find a permanent home in U.S. grocery stores — the sooner, the better.

Sunvalley Shopping Center, DMV Field Offices Reopen as Cases in Region Creep Back Up – NBC

A sign of normalcy will return to Contra Costa County Thursday with the reopening of the Sunvalley Shopping Center.

Although more than 160 stores at the mall will be allowed to reopen, not all of them will. The general manger at the shopping center told the East Bay Times that the rollout will be gradual.

The ones that do open for in-person shopping will have to follow new safety measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. These include increased cleaning and disinfecting, different types of disinfectant and removing or rearranging furniture to keep common areas spaced out.

Cornell research powers Facebook's new AI shopping tool | Cornell Chronicle

A new artificial intelligence system allowing shoppers on Facebook to identify characteristics of items in uploaded photographs is based on Cornell research.

In 2016 Bala and Bell co-founded GrokStyle, a startup based on this research. GrokStyle was acquired by Facebook last year.

"This was an idea that came from a research setting in academia, with a student and the adviser," said Bala, incoming dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Science, beginning Aug. 15. "I am delighted to see it go all the way through to consumers in the world."

Retail shopping centers in New York see dim future in recession

When Albany deems shopping centers in New York state safe to reopen, they may look vastly different, not to mention emptier, than before the coronavirus pandemic.

While changes to the national economy prompted analysts to estimate that as many as 20,000 stores may close in the U.S. this year, Albany's directive for restarting the economy in New York state allowed retailers, except in New York City and Long Island, to reopen on Tuesday after a 2½-month mandated hiatus.
