Universal Studios Hollywood to reopen on weekends for food and shopping event | KTLA

For the first time since closing nearly a year ago because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Universal Studios Hollywood will be opening its gates so fans can shop, dine and stroll through most of the theme park on weekends.

The “Taste of Universal,” a ticketed event, will begin March 12 and be held each Friday to Sunday from 12 to 7 p.m., Universal Studios Hollywood announced Thursday.

Rides, shows and attractions remain closed, but visitors will get to wander around some of the park’s most popular destinations to buy merchandise, food, beverages and other goods.

Costco 4Q profits rise, helped by pandemic shopping habits

ISSAQUAH, Wash. (AP) — Warehouse retail chain Costco Wholesale said its fourth-quarter profits rose slightly from a year ago, its profits weighed by wage premiums paid to employees during the pandemic.

In a quarter during which Costco saw a surge of online shopping, the company based in Issaquah, Washington, said it earned $951 million, or $2.14 per share. That's compared to a profit of $931 million, or $2.10 per share, in the same period a year earlier.

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — At the busy corner of University Street and War Memorial Avenue, there is a 4.5 acre lot that used to be a car dealership 10 years ago.

The Kim Group divided the lot into six parcels and is applying for a special-use permit for zoning purposes.

“We’re excited especially during these economic times that we’re finding people that want to come into our city, relocate here and grow roots. So we’re excited to start the project,” said CEO Katie Kim.

Kerbside pickup, where buyers' vehicles pull up to retail outlets and dedicated staff help load online orders into the boot, helped supermarket chains notch up a banner year.

No big retailer in America can do without kerbside pickup. Those that had it before the pandemic, including Target, Walmart and Kohl's, have expanded their offerings. On March 2nd Target reported record digital sales, which accounted for two-thirds of revenue growth last year. These were powered by such "drive-up" purchases, which ballooned more than six-fold in the final quarter of 2020. Shops that lacked kerbside operations hurriedly created them from scratch.

People are not only shopping digitally more than ever, they're also shopping using their mobile phones more than ever.

Snapcommerce , formerly known as SnapTravel , has raised $85 million in what the company is describing as a "Pre-IPO" growth round to help further its mission of "changing the way people shop on their phones."

The Toronto, Ontario-based startup has built out an AI-driven, vertical-agnostic platform that uses messaging in an effort to personalize the mobile shopping experience and "deliver the best promotional prices." While it was initially focused on the travel industry, the company is now branching out into other consumer verticals — hence its name change.

Twitter is getting into the social shopping scene with a "Shop" button prominently displayed on some tweets, TechCrunch reported on Thursday (March 4).

The concept idea was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra, who tweeted screenshots of the experience, per TechCrunch.

Twitter told TechCrunch that the twee t is an example of the eCommerce-focused tweets the social media platform is planning.
