You can't fault the 2021 shopping experience for not being convenient. But no matter how easy it is to get basically anything you could possibly want delivered to your door without you ever leaving your couch, it has become increasingly difficult to find exactly what you're looking for. Y'know, it's as if, no matter who you actually buy from, you and all your neighbors and friends are all getting the same products. It's almost like the word "unique" has lost its meaning.
What would happen if the world stopped shopping?
The 21st century has brought a critical dilemma into sharp relief: we must stop shopping, and yet we can’t stop shopping.
At the turn of this new millennium, according to the UN, consumption surpassed population as our greatest environmental challenge. When it comes to climate change, species extinction, water depletion, toxic pollution, deforestation and other crises, how much each one of us consumes now matters more than how many of us there are. The average person in a rich country consumes 13 times as much as the average person in a poor one.
Will auto dealers fill shopping mall vacancies?
The company that owns Mall of America in Minnesota and American Dream in New Jersey said it is in discussions with potential auto-retail tenants for its massive shopping and entertainment centers. Triple Five Group, based in Edmonton, Alberta, has already drawn a Toyota dealership to its West Edmonton Mall, a high-profile theme-park retail venue in Canada.
"We've always wanted car dealerships in our shopping centers, but what has made [this attractive] is it is taking up excess space left by traditional anchor-type retailers," said Triple Five spokesman Daniel Person.

Those upbeat feelings hold true for Karen Murray, owner of Fivestory, an uber-chic women's store located on Madison Avenue, who opened an outpost in Southampton mid-April this year, after a very difficult season in the city. "I realized my customer is out here." And, she adds, referring to new freedoms and relaxed protocol, "I am more optimistic than I have been in a year."
Amazon is now letting Indians read magazine articles in its shopping app – TechCrunch
Amazon, in its ever-growing desire to become a super app in India, is testing a new category to persuade users to spend more time on the shopping service: Feature articles.
The American e-commerce giant has quietly launched " Featured Articles " on its shopping app and website in India that showcases feature articles, commentary and analysis on a wide-range of topics including politics, governance, entertainment, sports, business, finance, health, fitness, books and food. The articles are sourced from several large local media houses and magazines.
Houseplant care: Tips for plant shopping - The San Diego Union-Tribune
Shopping for houseplants now can be like playing the lottery: There's no guarantee you will be rewarded with the jackpot. As houseplant sales have skyrocketed and more plant stores have opened, the demand for plants has become increasingly competitive for small businesses.
As more people get vaccinated and return to shopping in person, expectations might not always match reality, particularly when demand is high and supply is low. Another thing retailers say is in short supply? Good manners.
Revenge Shopping: What's In Store For The U.S.?
Within the highest income demographics, the return to luxury spending in the U.S. will most likely mirror the trends we have seen in China and London, with the wealthiest of the population spending at pre-pandemic levels by 2022. However, as the McKinsey report noted, the recovery will be an uneven one as younger people and lower income households have been more deeply affected by pandemic-related job loss or job insecurity.
Listening to the customer has never been more important or easier, with a variety of tools and services available in the market. Without the Voice of the Customer, retailers are missing a significant sales opportunity to guarantee that they will drive conversion by offering customers exactly what they want at the price they are willing to pay. The customer's wish should be the retailer's command, whether that's a diamond-studded Birken or simply a new pair of jeans.

Shopping cart etiquette stirs conversations among readers
Joe Sullivan overheard a winter visitor from South Dakota at Home Depot: "Imagine returning your shopping cart to the stall or store in 20 degrees like back home. It's a joy to return my cart here in Arizona."
Dozens of readers responded when I asked if what we do with our shopping carts says something about who we are.
Barbara Philipps almost never returns her cart, but she takes a cart from the parking lot into the store. "Do I get points for that?" she wrote.
